Insurance + Alloys + Help !

I'm 17 and currently insured on my Polo 1.4 CL through my Dad with Direct Line. However the insurance premium states that I am the main driver as this somehow reduced costs. Hopefully this also means that it will be me that picks the one years no claims bonus providing I have no accidents. The premimum has been paid for an annual term starting from July last year.
My situation is that I'm desperately wanting to put alloys on my car. Even though I am insured under my Dad, because I am the main driver Direct Line state you must be 21 to make modifications to the car. I understand if I were to cancel my contract with Direct Line I would lose the remaining amount for the annual term I submitted initially. I would also lose the no claims bonus I am building so I don't think switching insurance companies is really viable right now.
What I'm looking for is some advice on which insurance companies allow what in terms of modifications and the price bracket they will additionally sling on to your premium. I can potentially leave Direct Line in July being 18 and with a one years no claims which will help matters slightly but from looking around initially the only people who did competitive rates to Direct Line was Tesco. Has anything changed? What are their policies on mods?

just shop around. you'll find one out there that let you do stuff, just watch out for how much they sting you! I'm with
www.needtoinsure.co.uk and they said I could put alloys on no probs and it'd be only my excess that went up!

try
www.liverpoolvictoria.co.uk
they were £1500 fully comp on a 94 polo gt in my name.
i THINK they allow any mods aslong as they are not performance enhancing, allthough i was reading a post on uk-mkivs.net and someone said LV had allowed them to do any performance mods for £50 aslong as the cc of the engine didn't increase
best check tho

Does a no claims bonus carry across from company to company? Am I right in thinking the 1 years no claims I get in July will still count if I move from Direct Line?

I was quoted £1312 first driver on my Polo 1.4 16v and i'm 18. My Polo has a few mods and told them that there will be alloys to come worth £800. They said fine as long as then know about it. Do a Pass Plus and if you can do a CBT and a Introduction To HGV Course. This all adds up to insurance companies liking you. Fingers crossed with 1 years NCB when i come to renew next year i will be paying a lot less.
You just need to dhop around mate and as your 17 you need to shop around even more. Good luck.
However if you want to be the main policy holder you have to phone the DVLA and make yourself the Registered Keeper of the vehicle as many people have passed on thier penalty points to thier unborn children through this loophole.

i'm with HIC now! u have to be 19 to be with them but they are worth a thought when ur that age! they halved my insurance to £533 when i was with liverpoolvictoria for £1,063! i asked them about mods, the person on the other end didn't seem to no wot he was talking about, i asked him, does it include things like induction kits, exhausts ect. he said no, things that we mean are like errrrrr turbos! like i am going to get a turbo for my car!!!
some insurance companys look at things differently, for example, one company will ask if ya got any security whereas others won't!

i got a b reg polo coupe and it at £800 tpft i told them about all my mods this includes full stainless exhaust, full susspension kit shocks and springs , 15inch oz alloys , tinted windows and also not the original hk 4speed engine coz i changed it to a mh 5speed and they told me all i have to do is write them on letter head paper and send it to them they said these modifications do not make my insurance cost more only way that it will change the cost is if i mod the engine causing the bhp to increase and in that case i will need a rolling road test to show how much bhp its kicking out and also a engineers report to say its done correctly
