Programmable Intermittent Wipers

This applies to Mks 3,4,5 as far as I know. My instructions apply to the Mk5. I'll add pictures later when I find my camera. This is a mod that a lot of people do to old Golfs, I hadn't realised it could be done on the Polo too.
Remove lower dash trim. If your hands are thin enough you might just be able to reach the relays through the fuse panel opening, without taking off the trim.
Pull out relay 19. Just pull it out, the white tabs on the top and bottom secure the socket not the relay.
Replace it with relay 99. The part number is 357 955 531. It was standard equipment on many old VWs, for example the Sharan. There's plenty of them for sale on ebay.de, search for 'relais 99'.
Enjoy your new programmable intermittent wipers!
To set the speed:
1: Turn your wipers to intermittent
2: Turn off your wipers
3: When you need to wipe the windscreen again turn your wipers back to intermittent.
They will continue to wipe at the interval between 1 and 3, subject to a minimum of 2 seconds and a maximum of 45 seconds.
The interval goes back to the default setting when you start the car.
Also the relay reduces the number of wipes with a spray from 5 to 3.
