Zymol, the makers of the £7,000 wax (Royale) have released their latest über wax, Solaris.

Apparently, you have to make the wax to your specification by yourself, with the included golden spoon (wtf?!). If I paid $30,000 for some wax I'd want it to last 1,000,000,000 years, and make the car so shiny, that you'd need to wear a welding mask when you look at it, also the beading has to be so tight, that water literally bounces off the surface, leaving a perfectly dry panel. Sod the golden spoon. I think they've lost the plot, after all the DW furore.

Mad, absolutely mad. I think shelling £30 for some Dodo Juice Orange Crush is excessive...

They offer free refills though Ive got a bottle of maserati wax next to me - thats £60 per half litre

That was probably him, I guess. A 75-step process isn't unusual for detailers, really. It's why they're called "detailers" not "valeters". It's a much more detailed process

As for the free refills. There's some "fair use" crap written into the contract. Basically, zymöl decide when you need more wax, not you. Also, only certain, approved people are o allowed to use the $1k+ waxes.

However, I think the guy was using Zymöl Royale. Solaris has recently come out.

The way i look at it is, spending 1% of the value of your car(s) on a decent wax to maintain the paintworks finish isn't unreasonable.

My car is worth less than £5k, the wax I use is purchased for about £40. Sounds a fair amount, but the wax has lasted 3 years, waxing two cars.

If I had a car/fleet worth £1.5m, I wouldn't think much of spending $30k (£15k) on a decent wax. Each to their own I guess.

Im sorry it doesnt matter how much your car or fleet is worth, nothing can justify the price of this wax. Typical retail markup is 100% so unless the ingredients and production of this wax cost £15000 then its a rip. Of course the cost of a gold spoon would probably add to it but still £30000!!

If anyone is considering buying it give the £30000 to me and I will wax your car everyday for a year.

The oranage crush is nice if you like a soft wax but the banana armour is great as I reckon it's gonna last me years

Had a really good friend "Dom" to crash over at my place a while back so of course he had to earn his keep.....

Dom is the man behind "DoDo Juice"



Dom quickly determined that the 7 series was at least a 3 bucket wash system (well he needed three buckets of hot water to clean it......) I only ever need one bucket to do the whole car so he's obviously a better washer or I don't give a rats



Anyway Dom's working on a range of his own design car waxes (with typical Dom humour I hasten to add) so keep an eye out for Dodo Juice waxes now they've been launched

He knows I'm not at all into "detailing" so trying them out on my car was always going to be a challenge

So once it was washed and dried we tried out some of the waxes

For the bonnet we decided on "Purple Haze" smells of lavender which is nice if you like lavender

Wax applied easily and didn't need much buffing to bring up a nice shine



For the roof and bootlid we decided on "Banana Armour"

It's a hard wax and personally I reckon the ideal one for someone who likes the pot to last a long long time Smells just like banana's even when buffing it off.



For the sides we tried "Rainforest rub"



Now I really really liked this one much softer wax a complete doddle to apply and excellent coverage - hell you can even apply it to plastic This was probably my favorite one just for ease of application

For the lower flanks and the rear quarters we went for "light fantastic" again a semi hard wax but white colour on a black car meant that it was easy to see bits you's missed at the application stage or even at the buffing stage



For the filler cap we applied some of that ?7000 a tub Royale wax (don't tell anyone but I can't tell the difference!!)

Apparently (and I know Jack smidt about this sort of thing) but this sort of water beading on a waxed panel is good



Anyway it was an entertaining morning and my car is now very very very clean and shiney

It's been 4 months and it still doesn't need re-waxing!! beading when it rains is still tight although I have been using a somewhat less aggresive car shampoo - he groaned when he saw what I had been using!!!

This one has been done with Orange crush



But it's a hard colour to get a nice shine on

some of those shine shots are awesome mate! looks like pretty good wax thats hes developing!
