just wondering, is it not possible to fit a diffirent gearbox rather than the standard gti box, such as one from a diesel polo(or even golf) which would stand up to more torque and hopefully have stronger bearings?

Believe me, thats a question we'd all like to answer with a yes... but it doesnt look like it... Even the lupo GTi box wont fit

hmmm that is a bit annoying. can any1 tell me what kind of oil is in the gearbox and how much it holds?

its about 3litres. cant remeber the oil though

75 - 90 gearbox oil

I can get a 6 speed sequential gearbox that would fit but its not cheap

Whats the sequential box from?

It would be possible to fit a Lupo engine and box into the car, but it would require such a silly amount of work...Custom peddlebox with hydraulic clutch master...Subframe/chassis modifications, possibly new halfshafts as well...

Not worth the effort IMHO...

Its a Gemini / Ricardo one as used by VW-Racing when they were racing the GTi - Â£6,150

You also need the Lupos engine as its not possible for the 6 speed box to physicaly bolt on to the Polos engine.

You also need the Lupos engine as its not possible for the 6 speed box to physicaly bolt on to the Polos engine.
