dodgy door + wiper

Hi,

my passenger door, once unlocked (from locked) takes between 2 and ten tugs of the handle to unlock however if the door is unlocked there's no issue in it unlocking. Any idea what could be causing that. Don't know if it's related, but opening that door doesn't turn on the door lights or the light in the roof.

The rear wiper also has an intermittent not wanting to work issue. It normally doesn't want to work when it's raining! I'm guessing this is most likely an earth issue, but no idea where to start so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If its the same as Mk5s its earthed behind the rear light clusters on the passenger side :)

As for the door, its probably a faulty mechanism. Theyre not too expensive to fix as each part is available seperately. The lights are to do with a push switch mounted on the door sill near the catch - probs a faulty unit.

Probably your door catch is faulty. The door open lights are no longer controlled by push switches between the door/door pillar, they're now controlled by microswitches inside the catch. I had a similar issue with my mums mk4 and we had to change the catch.

If you buy yourself a haynes, it'll explain how to change the catch and also how to access the rear wiper motor to check for earthing problems.

Ahh forgot about the lights :P panda is right on that one.

Haynes should tell you how to take the handle, and mechanism out so you can check it over :)
