Have I been caught?

About 10 mins ago I left my house which is on a 30mph road.
got a few hundered yards away and suddenly noticed two police officers hiding in bush with a speed gun!
Straight away I looked at my speedo and saw i was doing just over 40mph!

Sucks.

I phoned my mum up just to ask her what she thought and she said they probably wont issue me with a fine. But like any one I am quite concerned now.

Am I right in thinking that the police must be visible and that they must give warning of any cameras a minimum of 100 yards in advanced?

Cheers.

mm i'm in exactly the same position! last monday (1st october) same thing happened to me, without any warning whatsoever, in an area where there have never EVER been coppers before. i dunno whether i slowed down in time, i was doing around 40mph aswell.

oh well, i guess if i have been caught ill find out on monday or so yeah? assuming they take about 2 weeks to arrive?

Its a bugger if I have been caught aswell, cause i only passed my test a few months ago... so if i'm caught again in the next 18 months i'll lose my licence. plus i'm totally skint andi don't fancy forking out £60..

I thought that in th same way cameras have to be bright yellow, and camera vans are so noticable, police cant just hide in a bush. If they are standing outside of a vehicle with a camera I think they have to be standing next to a visible police car. Not sure but thats what I've been led to believe.

Ok to put this straight :P

There is no requirement for signs warning you of any kind - this is at the choice of the police officers, and isnt a legality.

40 in a 30 is an instant 3 points and £60 fine, though they may put you on a Driver Awareness Course so its called which they run down here which is instead of. Though if you argue, you may end up in court.

They dont stop you and issue a ticket, it comes in the post as a notice of intended prosecution - i would know that for a fact!!!!

To be honest, if they didnt catch you, id be shocked. They can catch you from half a mile away!!

ok but lets say you are going like 90 in a 30, and they get the gun on you, they have s**t all chance of getting number plate? so they must have to chase after you, its only the cameras in vans that actually take pictures which dont?

Uhh yea but they are not allowed to hide, they MUST be clearly visable from a certian distance.

They would have caught me as I was driving away from them. The guns work only when cars are driving towards the gun or the other way because they are calibrated to work one way. I know this from re-searching the guns they use. Plus these guns can be absolutly useless if not properly setup or held right by the user. So all those variables can easily be disputed. My speedo said 40 my sat nav would have probably said 35/36 if it where in the car.

I reckon I could dispute it if it comes to that.

Just thought I would post this.
so they these officers where in the wrong to begin with.
Site Visibility

Dependant upon the enforcement method used, speed camera housings, or the camera operator or the mobile vehicle must be visible form the driver’s viewpoint at the following minimum visibility distances:

60 metres where the speed limit is 40mph or less

iit does say dependant - if they caught you i can guarantee you 100% you wont get away with it. Theyll just put you on that waste of time course!
For mobile enforcement, co-located camera and speed limit repeater signs, or sign 880 where appropriate, must be placed in advance of the point of entry to the site or route (including or excluding side roads at the discretion of the partnership) in the direction being enforced. Camera signs must also be placed thereafter at intervals of around 1 km throughout the site or route.
Which road were you on....yours or coming back from alis? Becuase if there are camera signs anywhere along that route, thats all they really need

I was leaving my house, I had just left it. There are no camera signs in my area. Plus where i live you see a police car about once a decade.
