Alloy Wheels

I currently don't have any alloy wheels on my Polo and the moment  but I am after getting a nice second hand set. My mate had some very nice three-spokes for sale and he came round to see if they would fit on my car. Of course, my luck, they didn't. The four stud holes on his wheels did not match up to the holes on the hubs on my car.

To avoid further disappointment, I want to find out the exact size of the wheels required for my car, so I can look for a set and know they will fit. I know that I want four stud 14+" diameter wheels, but what other information do I need to know to know that the wheels will fit my car (like the distance between each stud, max width etc.) I don't know much about wheels sizes exept for diameters and widths, so I hope someone can help me get the right size for the alloys that will fit on my car. :P

P.S - I have a Polo MK3 Coupe Boulevard, with the original stock steels wheels on ( )

14" x 6" (Diameter x width)
100 x 4 pcd
ET 36-38 offset
185-50 14 tyres

Unless you are going for really wide euro style wheels, stick to those figures and you cant go wrong.

If you have a lowered polo you'll propebly need to modify the wings (is that the correct word??? )
I used to drive arround with 14" 6J ET38 and 185/55 and the wings en tyres didn't like it. Replaced the 185/55R14 with 165/55R14 and no trouble at all, and it even looks better.
Only problem is, those 165/55R14 tyres are not made or shipped to Europe/UK normally, I ordered those tyres directly at the Kumho factory in S. Korea
