FSi

saw a bright red 3 door FSi (with blue i) yesterday with full body kit, all colour coded, with barcellona alloys and rear spoiler. Looked really nice.

What are these FSI engines like?? Anyone got one, had a go in one???
I liked the blue badge anyway.

Also, by coincidence?? Was parked next to oceanic green 5 door with melbournes (said 16V on back. Presume its 1.4). Was nice to see two together to compare!

Should have parked my tdi there to complete the set!

I thought the FSi's had the 16V badge on the back?

I've never seen a Polo with an actual FSi badge on it. From what I gather on the MKIVS forum and vwvortex, VW's badging is "erratic", to say the least.

FWIW, my 1.4 just says "1.4" on the back, but is an early one.

Maybe the 1.4 in a sport is badged 16V and the 1.4 in an SE is badged 1.4.

Who knows?

Deek.

I think:

1.4 (75ps) = 1.4
1.4 Sport (100ps) = 16v
1.4 Fsi (85bhp) = FSi
1.4 & 1.9 = Tdi (red di)
1.2 (55 & 66) = 1.2

Mine says nothing.

Oh wait.... I de-badged it didn't I? :D

I notice that the Skoda Fabia's just had its engine line up revised. Mention of a 2 litre petrol unit.

Maybe there will be something faster at the top end of the Polo in the future....

Well, there are certainly some tasty engines in the new A3 line up:

1.6-litre: 102bhp, 109lb ft (148 Nm), top speed 115mph, 0-60mph 11.9 seconds
2.0-litre FSI: 150bhp, 148lb ft (200 Nm), 131mph, 0-60mph 9.1 seconds
3.2 V6: 241bhp, 236lb ft (320 Nm), 152mph, 0-60mph 6.7 seconds (est.)
1.9 TDI: 105bhp, 184lb ft (250 Nm), 116mph, 0-60mph 11.4 seconds
2.0 TDI 16-valve: 140bhp, 236lb ft (320 Nm), 129mph, 0-60 9.5 seconds

Look at the torque on the 2l tdi  (I doubt if the R32 engine would fit in a Polo. Well, not stock anyway!)

What you really want in the Polo is the 2.5 V6 TDi, chipped of course.

We used to have a Passat 2.5 V6 TDi...nicest-sounding diesel known to man!

By the way, my 1.2 55bhp doesn't have any badging (apart from 'Polo') on the back. :?

Hi chaps (ladeez?),

First post...

Don't think the badging is that erratic. I've had my FSi for about a week and it has the FS and blue 'i' described.

Prior to that had a courtesy car (polo E I later discovered), 55BHP 1.2, no badge. Think this is the only model debadged as standard.

Friend has a 1.4 (75BHP) which is badged 1.4. Think the list above is generally spot on.

BTW, very pleased with my FSi, diamond black, graphite/blue interior. Sports suspension makes a massive difference after driving base spec Polo... seems to have a few 'extra's' over the base spec car that aren't listed in the option list! Anyone else experienced this?

I found this with my FSi.
I'm guessing because it's a newer engine they cars were built later and have a slightly different spec.

I think the FSi is ace! after test driving the
1.2 65
1.4 75
1.4 100
1.9 PD TDi

The FSi sounds a lot quieter and a lot smoother, I couldn't see much difference in acceleration. Only it had a bit more top end. The FSi seems to lose it around 60-70 then starts speeding up again around 85-90... *ahem*

Well I'm still running mine in... so being careful not to give it too hard a thrashing... Actually, on way back from Oxford to Manchester last night it was fairly nifty going from 75 upwards...

I drove the 55bhp 1.2 for 2 weeks as a courtesy car.. made a fantastic sound, but was woefully slow... also test drove the 65bhp version (nice sound again, slightly nippier)... and the 75bhp 1.4, which felt a bit dead to me. The 100bhp has terrible fuel consumption and I didn't think was vastly different to the FSi, hence my decision.

The best thing about all of the ones I drove (not diesels) was the feeling that every time I came to a halt, I thought the engine had stalled, the tickover was so quiet.

Anyway... stuff I noticed my FSI Sport has over the E, but isn't listed in the brochure is:

Dual tone horn (no weedy beeping from the FSI)
Automatic rear windscreen wiping when reversing
One touch "3 blink" indicators (notice how I'm making up my own names for VW features - haha)
Silicon damped grab handles
.... not that big a deal I know, but kinda nice little extra's all the same. Anyone found anything else?

I didn't go over 3500rpm or 70mph for the first 1500 miles now I'm closer to 2000 and only had it 3 weeks.
You can get to 90 without thrashing it though it's bearly hitting 4000rpm!

I've noticed one FSi had a dual exhaust like (OO) that.
Another thing was a 12v power socket in the boot.

Mine doesnt have either!

Also a few FSI's in my local garage have the rear spoiler and San Marinos!! :( :( I wish I had one of them!
