Has anyone put a 1.4 cl bottom end out of a mrk4 on there gt, i have been told that it fits and it is just a nut and bolt job. If people want a power increase this would be a good way to go if it works.

I beleve that the rods might be different too

theres a guy (ross I think) who took a whole 1.4 8v engine from a mk4 & put GT injection onto it. along with flowing the head etc... I think he was getting near 100bhp.

that was in a mk2 classic (saloon). unfortunately he's moved to australia at the end of last year & I dont know if any1 has heard from him since. dont know what happened to the car, it was up for sale at one point.

I'm not sure if it will work or not. I dont know off hand any people who have done it. But the 1.4/1.6 small block engines from the Mk 4 polo and Mk 3 golf apparently can be used.

I presume the oil and water galleries are the same, but the compression ratios and engine internals are definately different. The combustion chambers may be in the head or the pistons, which you need to find out.

Then work the compression ratio differences and if then if the head will fit. The GT head is flat and the combustion chambers are in the piston with valve clearances machined into them.

Theres many other different factors that need to be looked at.

My project will increae the capacity of the GT 3F engine quite considerably but theres a lot of factors to take in to consideration.

I forgot to add, that it's much easier to use the complete engine like the guy with the Mk 2 saloon has done and fit the GT running gear.

yeah i saw him at b.v.f!! he's a nice lad and he told me bout his engine,
it's a 1.4 out of a seat ibiza with mk3 mpi fitted straight on and the ex' manifold on of the mk3,
so it should be a straight forward job!
