How long should a refurbed gearbox last?

Hi guys,
The only reason I ask is because mine went AGAIN on Friday - totally gutted, but looking on the bright side of things that it is still covered under warranty. I'm just worried now about how long it will be until it goes again? Anyone had any experience of this?
This box has lasted approx 12k miles/6 months.
Hopefully I should have the car back in a week, but for the time being I have the wife's 13 year old Fiat Punto. I'd feel safer riding down the motorway in a paper bag on a skateboard..or in a saxo

Mine lasted 17 days
I havent had the best of luck with the GTI. I then had it rebuilt again by the same people and its still going 4 months later.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but wont the gearbox from the Ibiza Cupra fit? Surly a box from from a 1.8T will be more robust?

If so...then it would have been done a LONG time ago as this is a major issue with the GTi.
You didn't have it reconditioned by 'Ace Gearboxes' by any chance? They did mine and it went again after about 3,000 miles. Pure pathetic!

its a bit of a p*ss take that VW havent even attempted to solve this issue.
A recall, or at least release some official VW replacement parts that are up to the job.
such a shame as it really spoils this car

What do the lads in Germany do with their GTIs when the gearbox implodes? I cant imagine any German standing for such a poor solution as the one we all seem to be stuck wtih

The German's probably made decent gearboxes for their ones, we got left with the rejects
A bit like how the new mini's side doors open out onto the road over here but would be the path in Germany

That would make sense if the Gearbox connections changed from LHD to RHD, but I can't see it myself.

good point is that, would be worth trying to do some research on german forums if anyone can understand/translate it!

He said that they were dodgy over there too but changing something (gearbox oil maybe?) can help. I didn't really understand his reply, I think he uses a translation web site 'cause he tried writing "Polo GTI" and it came out like "sports shirt gti"
