relay for programmable windscreen wipers?

hi, i was wondering if anyone knows which relay controls the windscreen wipers? i ask because in my mk3 golf gti you could program the time between wipes by pressing the arm down, bringing it up again, then putting it back down after the amount of time you wanted to wait between wipes had passed (hope this makes sense!?) anyway i put one of these relays from a mk3 golf (no99 i think) in my mk2 golf and it worked just the same, and so i was wondering if the same could be done with the polo. so basically does anyone know which relay it is i would need to swap, as i cant find out from my handbook or the haynes manual. thanks. :D

I was going to look through my Haynes Manual before you said this. Sounds interesting as well, if you find out I'd be interested, it sounds likely a class bodge :D

ok will do. can i do any damage by just trial and erroring it? suppose i could take one out at a time until the wipers stop working and just replace that one?! might give it a go tomorow if i get the chance in daylight.

I think there are other numbers for the same part too, because a few different makes used the relay

I'll add the pictures to that when I get home over Christmas.

It's a good mod, but I only used it for a couple of weeks - because I fitted the OEM rain sensor :D 8)

That would be great. My Fiesta had this feature and it was very handy rather than having a crap fixed intermittent wipe - you could set it up to 14 second intervals

swapped relay 19 for a 99 today and it works a treat :D had to remove lower dashboard trim though to get access as the relays are clipped in and needed to pry open (top and botom) with a small flat screwdriver and pull the relay out at the sam time (i used pliers). so a bit more labout intensive than i thought but worth it all the same. also gave it a wash, pics here,

forgot to say i managed so solve an annoying rattle at the same time changing this relay. when i removed the bottom dash section (about 6 of those star shaped screws) as well as four old car park tickets, a screw that should have held in one half of the fuse box, and the grey fuse removing tool (that should be attached to the back of the fuse box cover i think) both fell out from where they had been rattling around!! so i replaced them to there propper location and now no more rattles!! :D bad i thought considering the car has only ben serviced at main dealers prior to me owning it!
