Hi guys

got in the polo today and set of down the road to pick my mate up. on the way (its only 100 metres down the road!) i noticed the boot open light was on, which i though was strange as i hadnt even been in the boot! when i got to my mates i opened and firmly shut the boot and the light did go off...for a short while before coming back on!

its now been on all day, at some points it flickers, but pretty much constantly on.

anyone got any ideas what could be wrong? anyone else had this problem?

thanks

Happened to me. The light also seemed to change in brightness, disappearing altogether at times.

Cause? Leaking rear washer pipe had corroded the rear boot mechanism thing making it think it was open when closed

Think it was about £20 for a replacement switch. Luckily my sound deadening absorbed pretty much all of the water. Reconnected the hose pipe and tightened a tie wrap around it, it's not come off since

I managed to fix mine

1. Take the interior panel off the tailgate,
2. Spray the switch with WD40.

job done.

also you might want to buy a small jubliee clip to secure the screen washer hose to stop it leaking again.

Speak of the bloody devil. Mine was playing up AGAIN this morning. It has been really cold recently though. Got out of work, went to use my rear washer and it seemed a bit better but still not powerful. Minute later the light was on.

Got the panel off, dried it all out, sprayed Halfords Water Dispersant on it and the light is still on. Hope I don't end up needed a new switch again

i still havent sorted mine out.

he light isnt on at the moment as i havent been using the rear sprayers. its been wet enough so just using the rear wipers now and again clears it fine.

think i will have a look at it this weekend. is it an easy job?

if your on about drying the area out, yes extremely!

just open your boot and unscrew the plastic cover on the hatch, then carefully unclip the plastic tabs still holding it on, then its just a case of drying it all out with a towel or whatever....

had a look at this yesterday. the clip had just come undone, so water was spraying into my boot as well as my back window. the previous owner must have had this problem too as there was already some black tape around it!

i also broke one of the clips when i took the cover off, but when i looked closer it had already been glued. had to glue it back on then left it in the house overnight to dry.

switch seems to be working ok, no need for a new one thank god!

You need to remove the lock in picture 2. The switch is on the other side. It pulls out easily with a little help of a flat-head screwdriver.

Here's a diagram i drew of the switch:

http://www.btinternet.com/~chris.hocking/AIR/switch.bmp

Be careful because after you undo the two bolts holding the lock in place it will still be connected to the rest of the locking mechanism.

PM me if you need any more help.
