Well at this rate you'll have a stage 3 turbo'd 4 wheel drive super Polo with full Recaro interior by this time next year! Good going so far this year anyway LOL
Either that or you'll get bored of the car by June and be flying about in something else......... :D

yeah i have had them befor and i liked them so got them again mate, better than the dunlops by miles eh

as for power, its stopping as it is, not starting doing clutched, diff's and other big conversions to make it work, cool as it is it just aint practical

i think a golf V gti wheel inside should finish her off nicely then ill just enjoy her as she is, as iv worked hard to get it how it is now haha

sounds good, lots of mods! 4 questions:

1) How's the cubby box now?
2) Do the brakes need new hubs? What size are the mk4 ones? Mine are poop
3) I heard engine flushes are bad news, they remove way more than they should and are really just a way of charging more cash...
4) Let me know how you get on with the change to normal services. when I did that the bloody indicator comes on every 1000 miles!

car's looking nice 8)

no im not going big turbo route and if i was i would be going the apr stage 3 or stage 3+ route with a garret gt28rs not an IHI

at david burton
1) its a loads better item, still getting rattles though even with nothing there, so i think its an under dash wire, and not the boxes, so not so bothered about that now

2) no need for new hubs mate, the 25th anni ones are 312 mm and with matching 25th anni carriers and calipers, they bolt off bolt on, straight job

3) its been advised that a flush be done as its removing all the original oil which is longlife and being converted to normal stuff, if i was getting longlife to longlife, or normal to normal, i would not bother

4) i will let you know yeah, im sure being a big name vag tuner they will be able to get it right mate ;)

and at rstdi

Hmmm, I too was under the impression that the GTI would need new hubs, from a thread or two on here I guess.
I'd be very interested in doing the conversion myself later in the year if it's a simple caliper and carrier bolt on.
I'm certain you'll be letting us know how you get on anyway Jeff. Awesome GTI must love you, but they've obviously looked after you well enough so if that's not a good advert for them....just a shame I live at the other end of the country.

Cheers Jeff.

Yeah, I'd looked at some threads on here and thought mine would need new hubs on larger caliper changes, the TT calipers have been said to need hubs too as have some golf threads too. knowing that these would fit is very helpful.

the service thing is very odd. it's happened to a couple of people on here - the manual says you can reset it even on longlife servicing but it will revert to a 10000 mile interval if you do. What's odd is it reverts to a 1000 mile interval! Could be a diesel thing though.

Did you ever upgrade just the front discs and pads? I wondered if doing this might make things better for me - I imagine you need a lot more stopping power 8)

edit: the standard 9N setup will not accept these calipers. it's the VRS and GTI setups that accept these bigger calipers. Ah well.

yeah its lower models needing a hub change, but as the vrs/gti runs the same dimension 288x25 disks, the hubs are fine for the 312 mm conversion, also, im using golf anni calipers not tt ones, which in some cases i believe tt ones are more awkward?

awesome have assured me of this and have been wrong on absolutely nothing with me to date so my faith is firmly in them, we have a good relationship and get on well, knowing the car gets what it needs and is always got from them

servicing - as its a petrol being time and distance converted it will be reset to re flash up at 12k not the up to a max of 20k as longlife allows, though my oil is and has been changed every 4k miles regardless

as for brakes david, i have changed the disks and pads to a tarox sport japan/mintex extreme setup, and although its significantly better, it still needs to be better, hence my going tarox sport japan 312's with tarox strada pads and caliper, carrier and stainless steel goodridge hose change

i have my gti setup for sale, included is calipers, carriers, hoses and all but new disks and pads, price is £100 for the std setup with std disks and pads and £175 if you want the tarox/mintex setup

a steal in my opinion, and would provide a decent brake upgrade for any non gti driver

Nope, they share the same calipers and carriers - no different other than the paint colour...

Cheap, but they'd still have to change the bearing carriers to fit them, and if you're going to that effort 312mm would be the sensible way to go...
