has bugged me for ages and i still dont know what they are

some please tell me

They're covers for the headlight washers. Only fitted to cars with xenon headlights.

As above, they pop up and spray the lights when the headlights are on and you spray the front screen.

yeah ive only quite recently realised what these are and what they do?

why is it only xenon lights?

When cars come out of the factory with Xenon bulb kits fitted they have to have headlamp washers as standard,

I'm guessing it's some sort of safety feature, a dirty lense means the xenon beam refracts funny or something of that sort?

Spot on Tim, it's because it affects the reflection of the light if the lens is dirty.
