ANOTHER gearbox related thread

These will stop soon I swear lol,
Right, when driving at say 50 mph, it's not possible to put the car in 1st or 2nd gear when the clutch is kept down, (I know this would obviously ruin and wreck your gearbox) but why is it not possible to do so?
Is there some sort of safety mechanism that stops you from doing so?
The reason I ask is I'm still having problems with selecting down gears after adjusting the clutch and changing the gearbox oil, and the struggle of selecting down a gear feels like the same constriction you get when your going too fast for a lower gear

every car I have owned does this tim, stop being paranoid about your box
I had problems selecting gears in the gti as well with similar effects but i just accepted it as a dodgy box rather than taking to VW and them tell me I need a rebuild....

I'm not 100% on this, but I'm pretty sure I can select 2nd at any point upto about 40

Yeh I guess I am a bit, it's just I've just hit 40k and am getting really werey of things because I know what problems other people have had, and know it normally starts happening in the next 10-20k miles!

mine was at 62k when i sold it with no evidence of it dying....i think it depends on the driving, although i drive like a c**t... judging by the fact you were behind captain slow almost the whole way to uk-p meet your box will probably last 100k +
