Its a modificatiom: On 6N2 polos the drivers side mirror is usually larger than the passengers side mirror, this is to create a smaller blind spot for drivers.
But it looks ugly so alot of people buy the left hand drive version to make them look symetrical!
Your car has it, must have been the previous owner or something?

thanks for explaining, yes all modifications were done by the previous owner, I have recepits for most of them as well.

It is rather strange, but it looks great. The guy who owned mine was a 70yr old disabled man so Im pretty sure he didnt change it....though ive always been convinced mine has been in an accident....who knows?

ahh you never know, your car may be an ex-how car!! and the 70 year old guy may have stripped it back to standard to sell it, and forgot about the mirror
