Any advice will be very much appreciated.
Last week, steering warning lights ON the instrument panel on my way to work. Just about 100 yard from Volkswagen dealer and it becomes hard to turn. So I ask them to check and put some p.steering fluid. They charged me £40 and it is done. Now, it lights up again. and is getting hard to turn the wheels. Any advice on what possibly got broke on my car.
is it still safe to drive:(

I'm not going to comment on the 'fix' - thats just plain ridiculous to charge you £40 to top up without investigating.
As for 'safe to drive' mate, it is common sense. Cars have warning lights for a reason and they come colour-coded for the same reason. Would you really want to drive a car thats telling you there is something wrong?

Power steering pump sounds like its on its way out - agreed £40 to top up fluid, when a bottle is only £6 quid is somewhat unbelievable. id go straight back to them and tell them what for!

Update. ('02 1.4tdi SE)
Because the PS lights on intermitently and from an advice from a VW specialist from an independent garage to. 1. check the PS fluid if its level goes down after top up. 2. look for any signs of leak on the floor.
I have done both. when i check the PS fluid after some struggle in accessing the fluid container. The level is below minimum. it just touches the last bit on the level marker on the cap. My engine at that time was hot so i think it rises a bit. but the level is still low. So top it up to max and drive for some miles afterwards and it does not light up anymore. Hopefully that sort it out.
I just broke the 'T' shape bolt on the battery terminal so need to buy 1 today and ask VW why they top it up too low after £40 charge.
Regards to all who gave their advice.
