I'm in talks with a new member off edition 38, he notcied my thread in the 'wanted' section and posted about a turbo he has in his garage, it was going to be used for a mk2 conversion but now he doesnt want it.
He said he will send it included in the price which is a really good deal....
the only thing is because he isnt a regular member he could easily just run off with the money???
is there any way i can get some sort of security so if i send him the money & its screwed or he doesnt send it i can claim it back?
I always collect when doing this but the guy lives in glasgow

Paypal has some security features and always seems to side with the buyer in disputes (not always a good thing if you're selling something!)
This is probably going to be your safest option i think.
I've had such a bad week of trading with people on E38, a guy agreed to meet me at no rice tonight to sell me his rear lights, then yesterday he swapped them with someone for some different rear lights and claimed he forgot I was meant to be having them. Stupid thing is, now the guy he swapped with is selling the original ones so I'm hoping he'll sell them to me!
Also got messed about on some wheels I was meant to be picking up this week, guy just decided he wanted to sell them to someone else!

I'll ask him about paypal, and maybe creating a private listing on ebay..if he agrees, otherwise i need to find someone regular & trustworthy on here who lives nearby and is willing to take a look at it

Yeh paypal is nice a secure for things like that,
Also setting up a private eBay sale would be a really good idea too, Then pay with paypal! secured twice then

The only thing with ebay is there will be more fees involved. A lot of the protection offered by ebay is mirrored in paypal so just using that should be ok.

True true, fees for security is worth it though

yes, but I don't think if would offer much different security to paypal so I'm not sure if it would be worth the extra fees thats all.

considering ebay owns paypal the security is level throughout. This kind of scenario is difficult - if you do pay and he doesnt provide, a dispute through paypal for that much money can be very very difficult. Ive had the pleasure of battling for over £100 back after an issue with a sale i was involved in. It took 4 months to get the money back to me!!

yeah get him to make a private listing selling the turbo at 1p there'll be hardly any extra costs, and its much safer. the guarantee with ebay is it gives a record of the transaction, confirms the sale and the product exists etc, with payapl he cld just say "i never agreed to give him anything!" or send u any old crap and then your buggered, ebay just verifies everything. thats your safest option

I don't think a 1p listing would work. if you bought it and never got the item you would probably only get compensation for the item. i.e. one pence.
and often the max compensation depends upon the list price.
just be careful. I wouldn't bother unless you could pick it up.
