I recieved delivery of my new polo 1.2 65 twist about 3 months ago. The car was specified with roof rack as I go kayaking very often and need to transport my boat. However the roof bars let water in when it rains and have since been recalled and withdrawn from the line of accecories. This means that one of the main reasons for me buying a car has now been taken away. Has anybody got any opinions on what I should do and what I should expect from VW.
I have also been waiting for the correct coloured floor mats since the car was delivered as the dealer seems uncapable of reading the order form. The floor mats are lighter than anything else in the car. Showing up all the dirt.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Maybe you could ask your dealer to see if the longitudinal roof bars off the forthcoming trek/fun could be retrofitted to your car:



But these might look at bit odd - especially if you leave them silver and you don't have a silver car. I'm also *assuming* that you can get transverse bars to span the roof between them - otherwise they'd be pretty pointless.

Nelson might be able to come up with part #s.

I very much doubt that these would leak - otherwise VW are about to have a lot of v. uphappy "Fun" customers.

Also, you could try PM'ing leonsmith -- afaik, he's been using the roof bars for the standard cars with no problems...

You should expect the right colour floor mats from VW -- I would just outright ask the dealer to change them without cost to you. There're loose change to the dealer, anyway - in the same league are mud flaps - inconsequential.

Yes, as DXG has said, I use the Thule roof bar system on my 9n and it has been excellent - fits very well, even uses the integral VW locating lugs, and hasn't caused any damage whatsoever (just make sure the car is clean before you clamp rubber pads down onto it!). It doesn't leak either

I haven't used VW bars since I found that their non-standard (aero) type design meant that everything had to have an adaptor to fit onto them!

Just out of interest, does anyone know how much the 9n Thule roofbars are? I was going to get a genuine set but wasn't aware of them having problems

mine is a five door so you may be ok if yours is a three door.
it could also just be my dealer trying to get out of fixing it.
Do you think I could have a case for rejecting my car, as the VW dealership have been very unhelpful so far, and as they havnt cleaned the interior stain from the water I cant forsee this getting better.
My car has only done 370 miles and is two-three months old (not quite sure). Anybody think ive got a chance of a refund?? Anybody got any ideas of things I could ask the dealers for like alloys or anything, that I may have a chance of getting?? cheers

£99 or thereabouts for the 5dr versions from http://www.roofbox.co.uk/ which is where I got mine from. This includes the lock kit so they can't be nicked off the roof!

They are part of the Thule 'Rapide' range and as such can be fitted and removed very quickly and easily. And! When you change car, you don't have to get a whole new system - just a new set of 'feet'.

Is there a cheaper option? I could really use some roof bars, but only need them once or twice.
I saw that IKEA sells their own brand roof bars for 30 pounds, but the new Polo is not in their list of approved cars (actually their list didn't include a lot of cars that where built after 2000)

Dom you have no chance of rejecting your car for that, believe me. I had 2 A4 pages of probs and they just offered p/x price
