Hi, i've recently got myself a golf 1.9 pd 130 engine, and having seen a very nice looking polo gti yesterday i'm thinking of putting it in a polo.

Has anyone done this before? Also, having read the thread on the lupo 6-speed box, has anyone found out if it the box fits, as i expect i'll need to use the golf 6 speed.

Finally, would it be better to put it in a 1.4 pd cos of the right loom being there, or a 1.9 sdi cos the right mounts would be there?

thanks
Aidan

I think it would be Better (and cheaper as you don't have the car yet) to cut you losses and buy either a Fabia vRS of a SEAT Ibiza 130tdi sport. Both cars have the same engins and six speed gearbox and the 1.4pd Polo is close in price both.
The Fabia is hard to come by as they are proving very popular, and at £11990 (the Ibiza in 3 door as £13500) it is also better equipped.

What you have to do is buy a six speed from either Skoda or SEAT is you are determined to stick it in a polo, that way you know it will fit in the same engine bay. with regards to the wiring, i have absolutly no idea.

I should have been more specific, i didnt mean a new shape polo. I think its the mk V i mean, from about w reg to 51 reg?
I have nowhere near that kind of money to spend! Hopefully a super high miles/or engine blown 1.9 SDi would be available somewhere for the low £3k mark

The 1.4 pd engine wasn't avalible was it? I don't think you will have much luck with the six speed gearbox, as although the lupo is based on the mk4/5 polo, the six speed box may not be compatable with the linkages although i may be wrong

I suppose it'll be too much work, though very nice if it could work.
Incidentally did see a fabia pd 100 estate for the right price, probably gone now but that would be a bit of a sleeper
