Engine Fan

My fan in the engine decided to stop working in the middle of ridiculously heavy traffic in London last night, causing my car to almost explode...
Has anyone had their engine fan fixed before and does anyone know how much i'm gonna have to fork out on my ever so wallet friendly car to get it fixed?

might be 50p for a fuses rather then £50 or whatever they cost now a days!
