Has anyone ever rescued a cat from RSPCA or similar animal shelter. My cat is going to keep living with my mum so Simon and I are going to look for a pair of kittens/young cats to come and live with us.

I'd like to rescue but I'm not sure the shelters would allow us to where we live. We have a house that has a flat below, so we have our own front door but only a shared garden to the rear which is not closed in. The house in in a cul-de-sac with fields and woods close by and in my opinion would be very safe for cats - but I'm not sure they will see it that way!

Anyone had any good/bad experiences.

I work at a vets and we don't deal with the RSPCA much but we do deal with the Cats Protection League. The branch we deal with constantly have kittens. So if you have no luck with the RSPCA then try the CPL.
Don't forget to vaccinate, flea and worm them too
The shelter would probably want you to get the cats neutered first/may already be neutered. And I don't see why they should have a problem with where you live. I think the main things they look for is that there isn't too much traffic and that there is enough space for a cat. Oh and that you are nice people of course! So I should imagine they will let you have some!
Try to find out if they've had any problems at all too, I know some of the rescue cats we see have bladder problems and are on special food, or similar. Oh and if its a rescue cat it may be worth while checking if it has had Felv/FIV (feline leukaemia/feline aids) tests as this can be a common problem among strays, I would imagine they will have had them tested already but charity policies may vary between regions.

Hey stacey - I'm going round some rescue centres today so hopefully I'll find a pair that are perfect for me! And yes, I'll definitely be worming/de-fleaing them and getting them spayed/neutered if they aren't old enough to have it done before I have them. I've already found out where the vets is and the nearest cattery for if we ever go on a week+ holiday. For short breaks, I've got a friend who lives nearby and also has a cat so we've agreed to feed each others if we go away for the wkend etc.

I've done all of that so far up to the home visit now. I found these little girls at the RSPCA place near us. They are about 6 months old, one is slightly lighter than the other, but you can tell them apart easily from their personalities!

i rescued my cat from a tree once...

lol she was from a resuce centre, they found her in sainsburys apparently whered shed crept in and hidden then come out at night and set the alarms off!

So, do they have a story - why they with rspca?

They are both getting spayed this week as they are about 6 months old. They were taken to the RSPCA as their owner emigrated - poor things!

Yep! Going to see them again today I think, can't bear the thought of them sitting bored in the RSPCA pen all the time!

They are funny as they are almost the same colour but one is a little lighter coloured, its easy to get them confused though - will need different coloured collars I think!

He wants to call them Cheatara and Tigra (although both cats are girls and he said Tigra was a bloke in thundercats!!)

BTW I have no idea if I spelt those right!

If he gets his way, I imagine I will end up calling them Tigi and Chi!

Had the homecheck last night and passed so we're hopefully picking them up Saturday!!

finally picking them up tomorrow!!!!

Really excited now. Everything is all ready for them, although I came home from work today and Simon had bought another fishtank (total now 4) very sensible!!
