hi i just joined up and was wondering if anyone has put hids on there polo. i just got my polo last week and im looking into getting them

Welcome mate. Alot of us have HID'd our polos, and its a great mod. Sets you back about £130 quid from hids4u.co.uk with our special discount code - pm me for details on it.

You get much better visibility, the car looks better and much more up to date than before

Its up to you, alot of people only opt for main beam HIDs, but if you want to get fully kitted then you could buy a set for the full beams also.

Personally, i think there is no need for high beams if you have main beams with HID's, especially buyin from HID4u, I have not used the high beam for country drivin ever since i have installed HID's, only problem I have with HID is that it is too bright, and i cannot control the beam pattern on the 9n! other than that prob, I cannot ever see myself going back to halogen lights after using HIDs!!!!

on that topic.... Anyone know how to lower the beam pattern on 9n's so it doesnt blind other oncoming drivers? lol....

I'd second the lack of necessity of full beam HIDs, If I had the spare cash I'd buy them, but they're really not needed

i had a set of full beam to go with the main beam on mine but sold them to a mate.. i would say do it!! such a difference to halogen bulbs. full beam is awsome with them too

Just to make this clear. Its dipped and main beams or dipped and high beams. Not main and high - thats the same ting

I have both dipped and main beam xenons on mine, with the main beams 55w bulbs instead so they are even brighter, but that is because I do alot of country driving by night and they really do make a fantastic difference to the visibility.. It really is like driving by day

And yes, you will require both H7 for dipped and H1 for main beam if you wish to change both sets of bulbs, but H7 dipped will be more than adequate.

Dead easy to install. Longest part is removing the bumper if you have a TDI. It should be possible to do it without removing the bumper on the petrol models.

No need for main beam HID's as dipped will be plenty bright enough. If you need any help just drop me a PM.

I had mine installed in FK projector headlamps. Looked spot on. Was dead easy to get up and running. I also changed the ring light bulbs.



You can do it without taking the bumped up, I took mine off so that I could hide the ballast behind the front bumper.

alex do you have projectors on your car?? if not isnt the beam pattern all over the place and blind oncoming drivers?

that's the main problem with HIDs - no beam pattern remains when you change the bulbs so you get a bright uncontrolled light.

some people even say you can't see as far with HIDs because the pattern isn't exactly where you want it.

these are the reasons I haven't bothered fitting HIDs to mine yet.

I just took mine to a MOT test centre who readjusted my headlamps for £5.

Basically whenever you change to HID's you ought to get the beams realigned for the reasons you've said David. This solves the dodgy beam pattern problem and lets you see as far as you want lol. Also once aligned you can always use the headlamps / load adjuster inside the car.
