Hi everyone, im new on here, only got my w-reg polo gti in february, bought it standard from a couple in dundee so had a good drive back home in it. got a couple of questions:-
the clutch is very stiff! is there anything know to cause this on polo gti's?.
have had a look through some of the threads on here and have seen some with a red stripe round the grill, is this painted or a thick stuck on pin stripe.

mine has always been stiff and never had any problems i think its just that way out. if you look at the sticky at the top of the page there is a list of all the common mods and how to do them. the red stripe is usually stuck on can get it from halfords apparently.

I normally find spraying WD40 down the clutch cable next to the engine normally helps.

Clutch is really stiff as standard, though it can be replaced at around £100

had been told there is a fork in bell housing that bends and should get changed when the clutch does, anyone else heard of this?

Going to tackle the clutch in the next week or two it feels heavier than the clutch in my 5 gt turbo and they are heavy, so will let you all know what i find.

I know the Polo will be a huge upgrade in terms of build quality but how does it compare performance/driving wise to a R5 GT Turbo?

I love driving the 5 when it comes out of the garage, it is only my dry weather weekend toy! unless you have been in a 5 (and mine is only standard) it is like nothing else in my opinion, they feel so fast. It does suprise me from time to time, last sunday night i was out with a friend in it and we where stuck to the back of a mazda RX8 on the dual carridge in to chesterfield. You could get carried away with it on corneres which is where so many where thrown in to the scenery.127 bhp out of 1.4 isnt bad but think what one feels like after it has been tweeked to 300 which is possible and has been done, cant help think some of thoes ponies are wasted with not being able to put the power down, the cars only weigh about 850 - 900 kg
If you get the chance to have a go in a good 5 or even drive one i think everyone would get out of it and think that is 'king quick for a small car!
I like the polo alot but have to keep telling myself its not the 5 or my old anniversary golf so wont go like either of them, i always wanted a polo but the small engine always put me off, i still think it is under powered but like them because of how few you see.
