that's definitely low for a TDI, what do you get on a long run at 50-60mph?

the weather and time of day can effect mpg due to what ancillaries you use. I find my mpg drops by 10-15% when it's dark and wet on the road, and cold outside.

however, first thing I'd do is go on the motorway / a road at 56mph and see what MPG you return. If it's in the 50s you might not have a problem.

I presume that's the TDI but the "S" spec level?

either way, you can only really trell if something's up by running at a steaady speed and seeing the mpg returned. It could just be that the nasty weather and the driving habits have hit your mpg hard.

One other thing - check your tyres are pumped up correctly.

Unless by S he means Sport, because as far as I'm aware, the 1.9 TDi Polos are only available in 'Sport' (or GT) spec. Unless he's from the continent?

also, I read your other post about the fuel gauge - I think it might be wise to actually measure your mpg via filling the tank up to the top and then refilling after 100 miles or so.

It could be that your readout of 38mpg is corrupt. Unless you've worked it out to be 38mpg with this method?
