only 2 things spring to mind, early signs of head gasket failure and possibly a failed thermostat.
try removing the thermostat and see if that improves things. its only held by 2 bolts and takes about 5 mins to do

thanks mate. will def have a look over the weekend. do u have an idea on the price for either of those as this is all a bit a new to me.

stat is around £20 for the part, but its an easy diy fit.
head gasket: parts again are cheap, but personally i would get it pro done, also get a new water pump and cambelt at the same time, as the pump acts as the tensioner for the belt and seing as the belt has to come off due to the head you might as well change them.
if the head is fine your looking at 350 to 400 have have it fixed by a decent garage. if theres head damage expect the bill to be a few hundred larger!
