are these a good idea or are they likely to make my handing worse?

it would be in use with my RX2's

you'll be fine mate, it MAY alter your camber tho I'm not sure (someone will have to clarify). 10-20mm on RXIIs looks nice 8)

surely they would make the car handle better because of the wider wheelbase probably not enough to feel any difference though.

Exactly, your looking at a maximun 40mm difference (that's if you go for 20mm spacers), so it wouldn't be a noticable difference really.

Adam - I don't know, someone else will have to clarify

you dont need to adjust anything as the spacers are just pushing the wheels out. no angles are changing, it would be the same as if you were putting wider wheels on for instance. should not affect anything.

It does, when I put wider wheels on mine the camber altered. Wider base causes the car to bow a little.

If you want to get technical about handling....

By spacing the wheels further away from the car you are increasing the leverage that the axle puts on the shock, so effectivley the shock will "feel" like the car is heavier....(the effect would be less on the back of the polo because of the rear beam axle)

If the proffesionals decide to put wider wheels on, or fit wheel spacers, this is usualy followed by a session adjusting the suspension, mainly corner weights to bring the car back to how it was handling before the new wheels were fitted...

Adding 20mm on both sides will make so little difference on the polo that its not worth worrying about, but deffinately food for thought!
