Didn't realize till today that I had locking wheel nuts on a the standard vw alloys the bastard thats causing me the trouble is:

He looks simple but ohhhhhhhh no, what you cant see is that there is another metal ring on top of him causing no means of you griping him.

I've tried the halfords Laser tool (to big in size both of the adapters)
I've tried the old smack a smaller size socket on and try and undo it, it works but the ring dis-allows grip, what happened is you grip onto the ring and spin that around and not the nut.

Anyone live locally that has an adapter or any advice on getting him off? I need them off asap for santa pod as my tires are bold (I've almost crashed 5 times due to them) and I got my alloys with new tires waiting to come on.

Are they steel rims, if so, chisel the outer ring off then hammer a smaller socket on,

I had EXACTLY the same prob. I did exactly what all the other had suggested, just chisel off the outer ring then used one of those reverse threaded sockets (no idea what the proper term is) from halfords to remove the bolt.

i snapped the key for mine and took it to a garage, the guy just chisieled off the ring and whipped all three off in a matter of minutes.

If they are alloys fitted from the factory, a VW main dealer will be able to order you a new key based on doing a search on your car to see what was ordered from the factory.

At least they're doing the job that they are meant for well :D

Chiseled off the ring, bought the things from halfords with the threads inside them, they only come in two sizes, tried both and there to big for the bolt.

So i tried a socket 17 size, hammered it on (f****d the socket up) but it sat on very cozy, yet I was still getting slippage with a 17, even though at a guess I'd say without the ring its about 18.5mm.

Any ideas as its really bugging me I wanted the wheels off for santa pod as mine are dangerously under legal tread and I really want to go santa pod.

Are you talking about the cover over the top of the normal nut on 1 bolt on each wheel, im sure it was the same on my sport rader's and just used a magnet to pull it out
