The plans for the car...opinions?

The intentions of the outcome of my car are simple...something with enough poke to get me around whilst being good on fuel. At the same time, something that looks good without drawing too much attention to itself

Well, so far I've not done much in the way of exterior mods...just some 9n3 rears. Under the bonnet, I've got a custom code phase 1 remap combined with a green panel filter. Should be looking at around 105ish BHP.

This is how it stands at the moment:

Am thinking the following in the immediate future:
  • Chrome strip for the tailgate
    Chrome front grille
    Votex front valance and sideskirts
    CC bump strips
    Stubby aerial
    Debadge the rear...or not...
Then coming closer to autumn:
  • Lower it on springs (~30 to 40mm)
    Front upper strut brace
And when I have more funds, 17" alloys of some description. OEM probably, but with large gaps between the spokes. Am going to paint the brake calliers as well. Initially, I was thinking Kawasaki green...but that was before. Since then, I've changed the theme to understated class so I'm thinking cream callipers would look good. Any thoughts?

And possibly these alloys:

Item number: 140223274823

Your thoughts? Power wise, in the future I may go for larger PD130 injectors and a phase 2 remap hoping to push on ~125 BHP. That's only a pipe dream at the moment though...plan on keeping the car another 5 years or so, and need it as a reliable daily driver when I eventually get a mk3 Golf VR6 when insurance allows.

Cheers,
Ash :)

De-badge yes, Vortex yes, Stubby yes,

i wouldn't chrome it, or CC it (spray the plastic gloss black instead!)

Get it lowered as soon as possible, and get some Audi TT comps 8)

i think avoid all the chroming. But YES to debadging the polo and the other badge, think it says tdi.

the wheels from ebay look nice and when lowered will look even better.

Yeah, not too sure about the chrome front grille myself...think it'd look swish though.

Really think the chrome tailgate strip would suit it though. Like this:

As much as I like TT comps, they seem to be the obvious choice (not a bad thing) for most 9n(3)s. Want something different, preferably with a bit of lip, hence the alloy choice.

So colour coding is a no-no then? Might just stick to matte black.

Plans sound good mate - Going to be tidy. I wouldn't go for chrome personally - used to have grills and boot strip and thinking back they looked a bit tacky IMO. Obviously its up to you tho. :D

Thanks buddy. Think I'm more or less decided on the rear chrome strip. If the worst happens, I guess I can take it off...

As far as the front goes, any thoughts on maybe a chrome strip all around the edge? Like the red stuff on the GTi grille? And thoughts on the cream callipers? Think no one's done that before :)

Thanks for the replies people.

I wouldn't get the chrome grill.

And I'd imagine cream calipers would look dirty white, and get very dirty very quickly,

Choice of wheel i like :) , not too keen on the chrome grill to be honest, i had one and took it off after couple weeks but the chrome boot strip looks well on the darker coloured polos

Colour coding and some subtle chrome bits will give a classy look to the car, especially in that colour as well 8)

And I believe that's the look you're going for, not an all out euro style?

I like the wheels, maybe consider some replica's if you're going for that style, maybe something here will tickle your fancy.

Yes mate, just looking for a subtle but classy look :)

Cheers for that site - the new RS4 replicas look pretty tasty, but might not be understated enough. Gives me ideas though...unfortunately though, alloys are at the bottom of my list though for the moment, more so since some nice person slashed all my tires over Christmas forcing me to get new rubber. Want to get the other mods in place first, but will look at some wheels eventually.

Cheers for the input.

Just out of interest, how did you go about getting the 9n3 rear lights to work wiring wise? Did you buy the adapter? Info please as this is something I am considering!

Bit of a long story...I bought the lamps thinking it would be a piece of cake to rewire the original connectors, but couldn't have been more wrong

I found that a seller was listing these lights with wiring adapters on German eBay and emailed him. £20 through Paypal and 10 days later and I have some adapters, only to find out these are LHD so my rear fog and reverse light wouldn't work. Whipped out the soldering iron and pliers and thought it'll be 'reet. The left hand side was, but I rushed it on the right hand side and wired it up wrong so my fogs were wired to my indicator and the indicator to nothing  Out comes the soldering iron again and I got it right, apart from the fact that the right hand side adapter looked messy as fook like a complete hash. Works fine now. This is what they'd look like if I took my time:

Now one of them looks rather amusing :D

PM me if you need help with the wiring. Also, another member who goes by the username Manni bought some adapters after I told him where I got them from. Apparently he found a cleaner way of sorting it out. Give him a PM and see what he's done.

Anyway, email this guy called Patrick: [email protected] and clearly state in simple English that you want 9n3 rear lamp to 9n wiring adapters. He usually replies quite late around 11 PM or later, but he'll get back in touch.

Anymore info, just PM me :)
