Welcome to the forums!

Is your mate's Lupo a 6-speed model? If so, it will be quicker simply because of the shorter gear ratios. Also as you have pointed out, it is much lighter than the Polo!

Cheers

Welcome to the forum. As Si said, the Lupo is faster because of the gear ratios and it is around 150kg lighter. Lupos are cool but I'd rather have the Polo, hence why I bought one :D

Welcome to the forum mate!!

The diesel sound on start every now and then seems to be a popular flaw, (I"ve had it a few times) I wouldn't worry about it.

I've also had the tappets adjusted before, (I was worrying about a ticking noise), but it didn't seem to do aynthing at all

I've never had a diesel sound in mine. Though Polos from Mk4's to Mk7's seem to get some ticking noise in them

A BMC air filter, manifold, catback system and remap are all good for small power gains. But with more power you get the more strain on the shoddy gearbox!
