After waiting 5weeks and 4 days to get my car back after dash rattles etc, I pull up on the forecourt to see my car all nice and shiney. That is til I walk round to the drivers side and see someone has bodged up some damage on the drivers door with an aerosol. I stormed in to the showroom and surprise surprise the service manager didnt now anything about it. told him I don't want the car back as ive been p****ed about with enough. He agreed with me and now im waiting for the MD to call me back. Wish id took a camera with me just so I could show how dispicable it is from a VW dealer.

Get VW UK Customer Services on the case. This is actually a situation where I think the bods at Milton Keynes can earn their wages. They'll do sweet FA for any other kind of problem. Basically get a case manager and a case number from them for lodging the complaint about your dealer with them. They will then get onto the dealer to ask them what they're playing at and if the dealer would like to keep its franchise. After I'd done this a few times , everyone in my dealer now knows my name and, after an initial period to doing their best to avoid me, now know that I won't take any p*ssing about and have started greeting me by name. Oddly, around this time all the problems with the Polo seemed to work themselves out. Either that or I stopped caring.

Basically, let VW UK know what's happened re: the spray paint and ask them to get the dealer to offer you a goodwill guesture. This will force the dealer and VW to speak to each other and will make sure the dealer gets worried about their position.

As for rejecting the car altogether, that's a separate issue between you and the dealer, VW won't get involved in this at all - esp. now that your car must be getting on for 12 months old. This is contary to European Law (gives you 6 (or was it 5?) years to be free from manufacurting defects) and UK law (gives the retailer a reasonable time to return the product to satisifactory quality if you've gone down the route of attempting repair, rather than rejecting the whole car outright within a reasonable time from first delivery). In my case, I know that VW have acted contary to legislation, but just don't have the money to persue the matter.

Also if you reject the car, the dealer won't want to do this unless VW will cover their costs. This is despite the contract of sale being between you and the dealer, without engaging VW at all. Frustrating is what this whole thing is - I wish I hadn't had to learn all this stuff!

Also, VW UK will use the acceptance of a goodwill guesture (£300 in my case) as acceptance of the car and will use it as a way for not offering any better in the future - from this point of view you might be better off not accepting any goodwill.

Sorry for the rant, but when I hear that things like this are still happening to people with much newer 9ns than mine, it really gets to me. It makes waiting for a GTi (if it ever shows up) that bit more unpalatable.

VW have been involved for around 10 months now. It started the day I picked the car up (march 1st) and the VIN on the windscreen was missing. Yes the dealer does no me by my name and they know I wont take any messing about. I have tried rejecting the car prior to it going in for 5 1/2 weeks but all they offer was £10250 p/x on a new car. Thing is now its gone to far and I don;t want any bodywork done on my car after having the roof resprayed under warranty and also the fact that I was only in the car about 30seconds to get me sunnies and I noticed straight away that the dash still isn't right after 5 1/2 weeks!

The top and bottom of it there is no way im having the car back, all I want off them is a cheque for £12500 made payable to Skoda, someone who actually cares for there customers and their cars.

I know one thing - the next time I collect a brand new car (if I ever go down that road again after this experience) , I will emphatically *not* be accepting the dealer's offer to "give it a look over and just check everything's ok". In fact, I'll be bringing a letter with me that states I'm collecting the car without inspection and will be asking him to sign it.

VW seem to have a policy of dragging these cases out for as long as possible so that they can get to twleve months and declare "it's too late for an exchange". Never mind the supposed three-year warranty.

To be frank, I was put in the same position you seem to be in - with an (albeit well above book) offer from the dealer on the table (including the option just to settle for cash and walk away from VW), with VW UK having washed their hands of the whole affair. The only reason I didn't follow through was because I'm likely to be emmigrating in the next few months...

Why was your roof resprayed? - was it the infamous "microbubbles" the black paint seems to get - I've have a whole rear quarter panel sprayed for that -- the rear bumper was resprayed because it had handprints embedded in it! Anyway, I tend not to go on about the really bad experience I've had these days, as it justs gets me wound up. Better things to worry about.

One of the things that *really* gets me, though are all the neither-here-nor-there bits of damage done to the interior of my car, while it was getting "reparied". Things like the scratches on the instrument binnacle glass, the scratched VW emblem on the steering wheel, the sratched gear knob, the scratched chrome door pull. All things that I know I didn't do, but how do I prove it?

(Although I dare you to name a part of my car that hasn't had (or still has) a manufacturing defect... )

Should be able to get money off, bank the cah, then haggle with a Skoda dealer. Either way VW get their money, but then why pay more for the same car???????????

Roof was resprayed cos of bird droppings, they said it wasnt under warranty then said it was! I wash my car every week so there is no way it should go like that. Im gonna take them for all they got.

With the skoda I can't find any options for the vRS such as Zenons and leather. ill go down on Sat anyway.

Look on www.skodasnewtoy.co.uk Xenons ARE available at £500 inc washer jets, but you will have to look at the ordering options at the dealers to see it as for some reason they are not shown on the website. If you really want leather (why??) you will have to get it trimmed yourself, but you can buy a Simoniz Teflon upholstery protector from halfords if its getting the seats dirty.

Ive got it back!!!!!

They've sprayed the side of the car for me and everything seems ok, they've even filled the tank up and given me a litre of the £14 castrol GTX oil!

Just gotta get on the phone to VW for compo now.

One thing I noticed on the way home is they've replaced the steering wheel cos its now got the silver and black vw as apposed to the blue and white and the leather round it is all nice and new!

Bet they set the airbag off taking it off!

don't you prefer the white and blue badge??

I dont; know really i suppose it matches up better with the other badges, ive got nice new leather though around the wheel

yeah suppose it doesn't matter when it feels nice a new , mine's getting very worn
