MPG

Coming back from Manchester yesterday I managed an amazing 55.9 mpg over about 25 miles in my 1.4 FSI. Did have to drive like a granny and didn't go over 60. Same journey a few months ago could only manage 47 mpg. Usual driving I average 38 mpg.
What's the best that everyone else has managed in their petrol 9n's?
(Ok the diesel boys can join in if they want)

Most i`ve got is 61 mpg, that`s driving at 65 on the motorway for a few miles to reach that figure though

Did this for a laugh....
Usually manage around 55ish on motorway runs and high 30's to mid 40's doing 2-3 mile round trips to uni with normal driving (shifting at around 2250 RPM)

Your 1.4 TDI isn't much different to my FSI then.

Yeah...my main problem is most of my trips are so short that the temp gauge is still on zero

10 mile round local trips sees low 50s, and sticking to ~2000 RPM on the motorway (~60 MPH) sees around 63 MPG, although makes for a boring journey
Was considering an FSi before actually...might have been a better choice considering most my trips are short ones. But then again, love the torque of the TDi, more so now it's been remapped

Ive managed to get my 1.4 TDI into the high 70's even hut 80mpg was only doing about 50 - 60 shifting at 2000rpm - 2500rpm

How do you get the little 'clock' screen to change to display mpg etc?

if you have it, it's on the wiper stalk on the end, 2 buttons, and underneith a reset button.

Short journeys really do kill it, I was behind a Fabia 1.4 TDI and couldn't keep up with it.

Not sure if it was mapped or not but it kept pulling away.

Although i don't have the MPG display on my polo i fitted the k and n induction kit about 2 months ago now, at first it absolutely swallowed fuel i was geting about 210 to the full tank! Now i've had it for a little while its getting me quite a bit over 300 which it didn't even do with the standard airbox so if you want a tiny bit better MPG i'd recommend tge kit? Mines a 1.2 55 haha slow i know, but i still drive it like a bell end!

with my 1.4 fsi i get aroud 37-40 mpg on a ful tank, this is mostly motor way driving @ 80mph with a 5 mile section of lots of s**t round abouts to go on.
Tbh though i do give it some stick

though lol

Went up to Warrington for work yesterday, its about 65 mile each way. On the way up I drove about 70 most of the way and managed to 65mpg, and on the way back I was following someone and we were doing around 60mph most of the way and I managed to get 69mpg, but that was with the air con all the way home

.
What I thought was mad was my work mate, who on the way up, in his 1.4 Petrol Toyota Corolla, got 64mpg

- although he said he was slipstreaming lorries most of the way, so he would have been doing 55-60mph mostly

do you find your computer accurate though?
65 is very good.
I find my computer accurate normally - maybe about 1% too optimistic. on long journeys (100+ miles) it actually underreads!

I'm not sure, I've never really tried to work it our myself.
I think it is probably 1 or 2 mpg over optimistic usually, but then again its all relative. If it reads 50mpg for one trip but then 60mpg for another, then then I have got an extra 10mpg more for that trip than the other, even if isn't necessarily 60mpg (probably more like 56-58
I drove into work this morning at 70 down the motorway (instead of my usual 80

) and ended up with 58mpg instead of my usual 51ish on the same drive. I think I may start driving at 70 on my trip into work now with the price of diesel being so high and the amount of miles I do is costing me a fortune

- Yes I know you are only supposed to do 70 on the motorway, but I have always found 80 to be a perfectly safe (if not safer as most others are doing the same) and about right motorways
