Strange Gearbox Problem - Gear-ratios?

Hi all,

Had a little search and couldn't see anything that sounded like my problem, so thought I'd open the floor and see if anyone's got any bright ideas.

Basically, my problem is that fourth and fifth gears drive in exactly the same manner. At the same same speeds, driving in the same manner, they hold exactly the same revs, and pull in the same way, as though the gearbox actually has two fifth gears and no fourth (hope that makes sense).

I have no problems putting in gear, clutch feels light, there aren't any odd noises that I've heard of and the car accelerates in all gears, but it just feels like the ratio between third and fourth is mile apart while fourth and fifth are identical.

Any ideas gratefully received, because it's got me stumped!

Check that your linkages are all aligned, when my clutch got changed, the mechanic didn't check the linkages, and 1st and 3rd gave 3rd gear. Was a quick fix, so shouldn't be difficult to check.

Cheers for the advice. Unfortunately I had the garage check this and no such luck. They also thought that it was impossible do such a thing between 4th and 5th as they're on opposite sides of the box, which is an interesting point.

Needs more head scratching now...
