Polo 6N2 GTi 1.6 16v (2001)

Hi guys,

My driver's side electric window it acting up. It goes down OK but it struggles to go back up. Gets about half way, its as if something is stopping it from going any further. Moves very slowly. Is the mechanism easy to access for me to have a looksee? Has anyone dismantled the door before for a similar problem?

Thanks guys.

Nick.

Thanks for the reply matey. I'm not sure if the motor is on its way out or the window itself has dislodged itself off the motor arm. I want to take the door apart to have a look. I've only replaced the grab handles on the doors before just not sure how difficult it is to have see the window mechanism.

Hi guys, I've had the door card off to investigate problems with my leccy windows before now. In the end I replaced the motor AND the regulator!

Pretty easy to do, I haven't got any pictures though but will be taking some tonight for a different (but related) topic on another forum!

I'll add some pictures later for what to unscrew to get the door card off. The rest is actually very self-explanatory when you look at how its all arranged in the door :)

Cheers

Thanks for that Si. Its exactly what's happening to mine. The window struggles to rise then near the top a loud cracking/clunking sound. Keep thinking the window is going to shatter. I've also had the door cards off before. After that is everything fairly straight forward to get to the window mech?

Thanks for the guide matey. Hopefully have a dry weekend sometime so I can get this sorted. Once the door card is off I take it its fairly simple to remove the speaker/foam etc?

No prob mate.

1. Speaker is easy, a few philips screws and a screwdriver to prise the connector.
2. Foam i use a cutter, the tricky part is the doorcard clips which i found it difficult to pull it out and the "white" part of the clip breaks easily when pulled out. This is the method i use to remove the foam http://vdub.14.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=687

Good luck :)

My drivers side electric window broke 3 times in the 2.5 years I owned a 6N2, each time I bought a new £8 window switch, stuck it in and it worked fine :D

I need a new switch, mine is starting to peel in the grooves (Yeh, I'm fussy!).

£8 seems decent enough

Well. I've had the door card off. Think I have found out what is causing my windows problems. The little bit of plastic you can see in the pic. That has broken off the clamp that attaches the window to the regulator bar.

Since my car went in yesterday to VW to have the cam done. I asked them about fixing the window. VW want £167 plus VAT plus labour for a whole new regulator. I told em where to go. £167 for a teeny bit of plastic.

Gonna see if I can get a regulator somewhere else or tie some cable ties or something around the clamp. I ain't paying £200 plus for a new part from VW.
