check the oil level again on a cold engine also, to see if it's any different

On these the oil light will only come on due to low oil pressure...

Its not an oil level warning, as there is no oil level sender until you get to much newer vehicles.

Althought obviusly having a low oil level may give you low oil pressure!

There are usually two oil pressure switches, at two different pressures, there exact location depends on engine, but are usually on or near the cylinder head.

If you have checked the level and it seems okay, then its going to be somthing else....

The things that come to mind are:

Dodgy oil pressure switch,
corroded plug or damaged wiring to pressure switch,
blocked sump pickup,
oil pump problems,
sticky oil pump pressure releif valve,
blocked oil filter.

towards the back of your engine. by sounds of it you dont have induction kit so theres a big black box at the back. take the screws out round the side to take the lid of to show your air filter! there should be 2 torque screws one in the middle of the air filter housing and one on the outside. take them off and pull quite hard to lift the thing off the throttle body housing! this reveals your throttle body. NEVER!!!! spray brake/carb (same thing) straight into the throttle body itself! always spray onto a wrag and wipe out! spraying straight into the throttle body F**ks the sensor inside and the throttle body itself aint cheap!! thats how i did mine by memory so might not be so accurate. hope this helps
