VWSA has dropped the 1.4 16V unit it uses in the Polo and Polo Classic models. It has been replaced by a 1.4 8V unit, giving a 2kW power boost. This is not the first time VWSA has does this. A few years back, with the Golf and Jetta II, it dropped a 1.8 16V unit for a 1.8 8V (think it was called Digifant or something). How common is this? Do VW do it in other countries aswell?

i dont think VWUK have used 8valve engines in their cars here for a while, none in 9ns, golf IV or V i dont think. mayb in 6n and 6n2. i think the golf 3 VR6 was an 8 valve. they r probably cheaper to produce!

SEAT UK dropped the 100bhp 1.4 and replaced it with the 2.0 8v from the MK3 and 4 Golf.

They did this because they were having a lot of diagnostics issues with it, IIRC. Nothing to do with cheapness, more to do with reliability.

tim, the VR6 was a 6v.

So, either all the pistons had inlets or they all had exhausts, but not at least one of each?! :P

Deek.
