** LOL's Mk5 6N2 SE WIP Thread now sold.Replaced with LCR **

Post by lolhoward »

Here's my thread for the progress on my Polo. Not planning to much as it was supposed to be my cheap run-a-round after my Civic Type R. Please add comments or suggestions if you wish.....

Here's a couple of pics that the dealership used. Didn't take any myself until a did some work on it and cleaned it up.

Image

The first thing I did was fit a Sony MEX-BT3600U Head unit and 4 Sony XS-F1735 17cm speakers and the usual alluminuim tax disc in matching blue and tailored mats.

Image

I then got a Clifford alarm fitted, with total closure. Mainly so I had a fob for the central locking.

Next thing on the list was a stubby aerial to get rid of the 10ft monstrosity!

Image

Then I replaced the front wipers with aero's and upgraded the rear wiper.

Image

Next was to improve the look of the calipers so I painted them and the drums red. Also replaced the alloy center caps and the wheel nut caps.

Image

Image

Then next I had to replace the worn grab handles and gear knob. At the same time I replaced the pedals with Audi TT ones.

Image

Then I thought to make it that little bit different I added the VW Beetle sunglasses holder.

Image

Next on the to do list would be grills and lights.........

Next thing would be to replace the standard filters with K&N panels as didnt want to effect insurance.
Then I replaced the front grill with a GTi one and then the lower one and fog surrounds to match.

Image

I then wanted to make the front look a lot cleaner and newer so replaced the front headlamps and indicator clusters.

Image

Next was to increase the look at night and to get rid of that auful fried egg look, so I upgraded all the front bulbs and some rear bulbs.....

Headlight & Sidelight Bulbs (Philips Blue Vision)
Fog Light Bulbs (Philips X-treme Power)
Front Indicator Bulb (Philips Silver Vision)
Rear Brake & Indicator Bulbs (Philips Vision Plus)

These pics are with headlights (& sidelights) and fogs on. Didn't upgrade full beams as yet...

I also replaced the rear struts as they were quite weak.

Got more little minor mods coming including interior mirror & full beam blue vision bulbs, so watch this space.....

Finally the progress thread!!

Could get some pics of the sunglasses holder?

I'm looking to get Bora sunglasses holders to replace my grab handles

I honestly prefer it with the SE grille tbh

Not a huge fan of the painted drums either

You thought about spraying the tweeter covers black ?

I love your mats, where did you get them from ?

Mine are in awful condition lol

Elliott:

I'm gonna keep the grill and swap it around when I get bored. But all I ever see are the slotted grills so its a bit unique round here.

I'll get a pic uploaded of the sunglasses holder.

Yeah might do. I'll wait for the mirror from ya 1st.

Nah i'm not a fan of painted drums either but wanted red calipers so did them to match. they dont stand out too bad though when you see it in person. Alloys cover quite a bit.

I got the mats from abroad through ebay. I'll find out details and pass them on. You can choose colour and stitching colour too. So create your own really. Good quality as well.

Kipper:

Not doing too much as need it cheap as poss as buying a house. Not gonna remove strips even though it would look excellent. Very tempted to get some coil overs on there but gonna have to wait a while. Then once lowered I would think about upgrading the alloys.

I decided on red as they would be quite suttle but match the rear brake lights. Think yellow calipers would have looked good with the blue but the drum would have looked auful. Also thats when I had just painted them, so there a bit duller/dirtier now so little more suttle.

Lmao yea the arch gap is silly on Mk5s!

You could always opt for a spring and shock kit from PhilJ on clubpolo if you jst want it lowering, i went for coilovers cus i wanted to kiss the tarmac, but you could get the perfect ride height with coilovers =]

Yeah true. I'll look more into and decide when i'm about to get it done. Heres two pics I just took of my sunglasses holder. Only problem is my lacoste shades 8) dont fit  . Its more of a useful cubby hole than sunglasses holder. You can see that all I keep in there is my remote at mo. It is good though. Shuts slowly and comes lined with some sort of felf padding. Can fit shades in there but doesn't completely shut.
