recently i have been hearing a kinda rattling bumping noise coming from my car. been thinking it might be something to do with my coilies as its sounds like its on the passenger side and when i go over bumps it does it...... was thinking it could be knocking against something or something loose.......

any ideas?

Just start off with the obvious stuff first and make sure that nothing has some loose, such as the bolts that hold the bottom of the shock to the hub.

Other than that I would guess that either the nut at the top of the shock at the top mount has come loose, or the top mount itself is on its way out.

Did you stick new top mounts and bearings on when you fitted the coilies?

If not, they only cost about £6 a side, so is well worth chucking new ones on at the same time, rather than refit the old ones.

when u say the top mount u meant that big bit of rubber thing? i got them with the coilies but they were second hand so it might be somehting simple like that.

Yeah...

Thats the bit... its the rubber mount that attaches the top of the shock to the body.

There is normally a big bearing race underneath it, but not sure if they ditch that when fitting coilies or not.

do u have any pics of this bearing thing cause i dont have any idea wat ur on about.

Top mount kit set for the front comes to about £40 IIRC? Kipper I think your referring to the shock absorbers.

Mine make alot of noise all the time, I expected it and don't see any problem really.

What noise should you look out for when the mounts are on the way out though? And what happens when they go?

i did check the wheel bolts tonight to see if it was them loose but theyre all fine and when i checked the bolts on the shocks the main bolt in the middle under the cap was loose, so tomorrow im gonna get the spanners from halfords tomorrow and see if once theyre tighten thats the problem solved as i checked the 3 outer bolts to and theyre all tight. then im gonna check the back ones to to make sure.

That should solve it.
have you had your camber and tracking done yet?

in a way yes and in a way no...... i had it done when i first put the coilies on befor they settled and they were at different heights so i thought id wait for them to settle first incase it was my drive that was causing it to not sit ok. i did get it done and i said if they could sort coilies out but they couldnt so i thought if i get it done the camber wont be as bad as wat it was cause it was really bad..... now i got the fudged up locking nut out i can re heighten the coilies lower and so theyre all ok then get the camber done yet again when i get money.....

u think this could be part of the problem then?

umm.. something maybe catching on the inner arch or something? But generally, camber and tracking does not cause your suspension to knock.

It could just be the springs turning, mine do it all the time when going slowly and over bumpy terrain

If you not got it sorted, drop round and i'll take a look, i'm off for two days

cheers mike, i did manage to tighten the bolt up and it seems to of done the trick so i'll see how it goes....
