Petrol Cap Lock?

Does anyone know if some of the higher models came with locks in their petrol caps. Reason im asking is it wouldnt be hard to steal petrol from my car and with rising fuel costs petrol theft is going to be on the rise. Only thing that stops someone from stealing my fuel atm is a 3mm thick pin like bar that locks when the car locks. Any ideas how I could up the security?

very true but i dont think you can do anything about upgrading the security on the fuel cap. if your getting that worried maybe upgrading your cars alarm may help as i no some makes have motion and tilt sensors so if you come into its "bubble" for a period of time the alarm goes off. other than that dude put a camera outside your house? im out of ideas lol

You can get a locking fuel cap from VW, but it has to be made in germany as the lock needs to be assembled. And its not cheap either!

Surely thats only if you want it to match an existing key!
You just need to get a cap and key from one that didnt have central locking.
I even think the old Mk2 Golf petrol caps will screw in, and think you can get them brand new with a key for less than £10
Obviously will have a different key than the rest of the car, but thats not that uncommon, as many cars such as Mk1 Golf allways used to have a different key.

True to say, but on a newer car its all about convenience

Try it and see

Just remember if its a scrapyard job youll need to get the key (which could prove difficult) lol!

I also found a range of different lockable caps in Halfords the other day. Some might be universal, I guess it depends on the diameter etc. May be worth a look.
