Vibration in the steering wheel

When I go over about 60mph I get a vibration in my steering wheel, although it doesn't seem to happen every time for some reason. On some road surfaces it's worse than others.

Initially I put it down to my camber and tracking needing to be done so I got it sorted last week but the problem was still there.

I needed new tyres so I thought getting the wheels balanced might solve it. This was done yesterday and again the vibration is still there. Any suggestions on what else it could be?

Sounds as though the wheels haven't been balanced correctly, could be something loose within the suspension though which could explain why it's worse on some roads that others. Sorry it's not much help!

Do tyre places balance the wheels without you asking for it done? Last year they did and I assumed it had to be done, so I didn't ask this year. Now you've mentioned that though it's got me thinking.

yeah i would also say the wheels have not been balanced correclty.

take them back and say it is still shaking at higher speeds and ask them to re-check them.

might have had the young lad doing them and didnt do a very good job

I think I will go back there tomorrow then, it's worth a try anyway.

They just wrote it out quickly when I got there at the end of the day with 'Toyo T1R 195/40 R16' on it. Last year it had the same and tracking under it. So I'm abit confused if they did it last year but not this year.

like you said just go check see if they where done and if so get them to check them for you.

Sounds like they have missed out the balancing. The thing to be careful of with a lot of garages, if its not on the sheet and been charged, then it hasn't been done

In the worst case you may have a buckled wheel.

I would look at things in this order: correct tyre rotation, tyre pressures, wheel balance, tracking, wheel bearings, sticking brake calliper, worn shocks/ springs Arb/wishbone bushes, steering rack. If your car is seriously vibrating get it checked.

its not serious vibration just the wheel and like razz said just on some road surfaces
