Rough, rattley engine?

I feel i have quite a rough engine, not very smooth, its done 90,000 miles, just had a service but still the same, all other engines seem refined, even my dads passat diesel, any ideas on why this could be and if it could be rectified?

You need to say what engine it is!!
My daughters 1.4MPI 8v is very noisy and rough as hell at idle but shes had it a year I've serviced it and it is just the same 10k later; could this engine be from the Skoda range and not VW design.
Anyway provided it has been listened to by a trained ear I wouldn't worry.

yep its the 8v mpi 1.4, im glad to hear its a common problem, makes me feel a lot better, thanks for replies.
