I've been thinking of selling up for about 6 months now and buying a civic type R but i just cant bring myself to do it!
I have wanted a type R for around a year now and just know the gearbox or clutch on the polo is going to go at some point (nearly on 64k now) but I still wont sell up!
Am I losing the plot? or have others had this 'problem'
cheers

I have even managed to have mine advertised and then as soon as anyone wanted to take her i just couldn't let her go!! When i am driving about and i am thinking its a bumpy unreliable hard ride and the gearbox is going to melt next time i change gear i hate it but still for some reason at the same time i love it, somthing comes over me that says if it breaks i will fix it so while its still working enjoy it. I think owning a GTI is a way of life

I like the fact that you dont see many polo GTi's on the road either.
I like the type R as a machine but its image and the fact that they are so common is crap.
Not only that, but from what I can gather from their forums they aren't half as friendly or as helpful as us VW lot (especially the members on here.)

hmmm the issue is the cupra just doesnt have that quality of the polo...
i love james ibiza, but it weighs the same as the polo but being such a bigger car it shows its not made quite as well!
but the 1.8t motor is cool.....
imagine a cupra engined polo.....

I loved mine and didn't wanna let it go, but something newer, more reliable and more powerful had to be bought!
I knew that I'd never use the Polo once I had the .:R so I let it go.

Would love an R32 or a mk5 GTi but even the old R32's are still fetching £12-£15k!
Having something reliable would be nice. I think most of us get the 'oh no my gearbox is going to melt the next time I take the car out' syndrome

Stay VAG, they are many that could dance all over a type r with a little tunning...
I feel in the same boat, i love my polo but fancy something else, but i'll know ill miss my polo lol

Both great cars imo,
the polo is rarer & probably better looking...
but the type R is a proper performance car, has the looks (especially in black) & love the seats. Problem with the type R is they are quite common, i'd say mostly dicks drive them but every one i've met has given me the thumbs up after a good trancing in my cupra...one even stopped and took me for a spin (he'd just sold his ibiza cupra to get it & was devastated when i 'whooosed' past him

)
I tried racing a type R in the polo and there is only one possible outcome unless the driver is 80 years old and disabled from the waist down. On cornering & straight line the car is just plain better..it out handles the ibiza and is a track weapon...i'd have one
but you have all the time in the world, and if u let your polo go too soon you will regret it, they are fantastic little cars, i miss it big time but i wont look back, and the girls love them! when i got my cupra most of my female friends were horrified & couldnt believe it was gone!

At the end of the day, the type R is a fairly reasonable replacement. But if you really can't bring yourself to pat with the Polo then maybe it just isn't the time right now.
