Well the More-BHP Polo is finally coming on.....

Spec so far..

K04-001 Turbo
Forge Actuator
Forge FMDV007P
Forge Intercooler to Throttle body hose
Forge TIP
TT 3" MAF housing with POLO MAF sensor -
3" MAF fitted to modded airbox with K&N panel filter
Bosch 315CC injectors
4 Bar FPR
Pipewerx 2.5" Downpipe and decat
oh...almost forgot.... totally custom map :-)

So now I have the Injectors and MAF sorted I spent time today racing up and down the road to optimise the fueling....

And F..k me the little Polo went so fast... fastest yet.....I was really pleased....just so strong....hit 130 in no time on a very small stretch of runway... and was still pulling like a train...

So Sunday... i will spend more time tweaking the fueling.....

Then tweak the boost and the timing.. hehehe

whitepolo... you cotton on quick....

I can do it already no problem... K04-001 K02-023 IHI Garett ...you just have to throw money at it...

I treat my Polo like my DIY project cos thats how many of my customers enjoy their cars... little bit at a time... thats the fun.... you try and have a go yourself.... boring to throw 3-5K and have it all in one go..

you know me - i prefer to offer REAL value for money....

looking to put something together for a silly cheap price... but like you say ..with a perfect map/tweaking... which NO-ONE else does... ;-)

You can do a 3" MAF using OEM parts. . .

Jeff - sure I will do some pics for you... the standard airbox lid can be modded to take the 3" MAF housing... then get a S80-70 reducer from Forge (which you need to trim to fit) so you can mate the 3"MAF to the Forge TIP (which will need shortening by a couple of inches)

Now because you have the bigger MAF housing your standard MAF sensor will under-read so the car will under-fuel so thats why you fit bigger injectors to put in more fuel. (and possibly 4 BAR FPR)

Then you will still need to tweak the fuel to get the car to run properly...

This is the bit I'm playing with now... adjusting primary and secondary fuelling to get max safe power at WOT

But Jeff really you need to fit a slightly bigger turbo first that maxes out the standard MAF - thats the reason to fit the bigger MAF and injectors.

fair play, ill wait until after the turbo change then, i think ill be after a atb diff next, but then next year will be looking in to a turbo upgrade, such as the garret gt28rs or similar, before getting apr stage 3 of stage 3 + software ill still need all the other components such as fpr, bigger maf and injectors, oh, and scat rods

Diff is a good idea - it will stop you blowing up the standard one...

and apparantlet the Polo one can be broken with power from just a chip

That wont include the fitting either. . . .

Buy one from the states direct, save a fortune, i bought one for my VR6 gearbox last year and had one delivered to the door for under £450.

Hey i have been trying to find a diff to fit and as the gear box code i think is 02RE on the gti polo will the 02J fit?

Depends which gearbox code your is, mine was an HWY (if i remember rightly) which shares the diff with an early 1998 to 2001 Golf 02J)

The GTI had 3 codes, so it may share the diff with the changed 02J diff used in later golfs.

If you look on the Peloquin site you'll see there are two variations of 02J.

02J is the gearbox type, not the code, which is 3 letter aswell, but denotes the specific gear ratios and part numbers.

Note - Its an utter myth that the Polo's have weak gearboxes as they are the same boxes as used in the MK4 golf and Bora. The oil change recall affects a huge number of models and ages. VW boxes have always had weak second gear syncro's which usually wear/fail because of a poor driving style. . . . .

I'm afraid it isn't. The 02J is a weak gearbox. They are fine with the standard torque VW intended, but not with the torque from a GT28RS, or GT30R....or even a maxed out K03S come to think of it. I've seen plenty of shattered O2Js from over exubberance with the boost pressure.

It's the gears themselves, they're not man enough. The main options are O2M conversion, SQS gearset or a hybrid 02A/02J with a mixture of petrol and diesel gears.

Driving style is correct and the way the K03 and 04 turbos spool up needs some consideration. It's that sudden torque and loss / regain of traction that smashes the gears (usually always 3rd).

The smart money is on a later spooling turbo to get some momentum in the car before planting the gas. In other words, lose the weedy little K03s and fit a decent Garrett roller bearing item.
