BRAKE PADS

Anyone know where other than VAG dealers, you can buy brake pads for these cars, I've already managed to buy the correct (as factory fit) Pagid front pads with wear indicators at GSF - but they don't seem to be able to supply the Textar (as factory fit) rear pads with wear indicator - so far the closest I've been able to buy has turned out to be for the Sharan etc - ie has the older normal plug with plug pins at the end of the cable - these cars need sockets with socket pins on the end of their wear indicator leads! Halfords list the Ferodo one but don't stock it. The real bummer is that when I bought these parts six months ago, Pagid had launched their on-line catalogue but Textar (same company) had not - its only now when I when to use and couldn't fit them that I had another look at the Textar site and saw that there was now an on-line catalogue and found the kit number that I need - but that will mean nothing to GSF or ECP as their stock comes in from their warehouse with "their" stock numbers stuck on them!

RUM4MO when I had my polo I bought my pads off eBay using seller
VW Teeside.
It might be worth a shot sending them a message asking if they can put up a listing of the required part you need. You should be able to negotiate a reasonable price too. I know it sounds a bit of a long way around it but I couldn't find anywhere online other than the ones you have already mentioned.
Hope this helps.

Are you sure on this one

I have definetely been able to buy Textar rear pads in the past for my 1.4 16v. They definetely had wired sensors and were from GSF Car Parts.

GaryUK, thanks for that, I think that I've bought or at least seen his stuff on ebay. I've bitten the bullet and again asked GSF warehouse by phone what their stock number for this kit was - then ordered them online while at work. The only bummer so far is that when I got home, the GSF stock number I was given and ordered was the same as the wrong kit I got from GSF shop six months ago!!! The only ray of hope is that while this might be the right GSF stock number, someone at their warehouse may have stuck it on the wrong box. My original GSF receipt claimed the parts were equivalent to VAG p/n 6Q0 698 451B when in fact they are equivalent to 6Q0 698 451 - so are not suitable having a lead end plug instead of lead end socket. The GSF stock number of the kit I need was 64603 only used on Fabia, Polo and Ibiza - the GSF stock number that corresponds with the Textar kit supplied first time is 64604 and is only used on Sharan, Galaxy and Alhambra.
If this turns pear shaped then I'm down to a 50% right part supplied first time by GSF - not a good advert!

Well its mainly thumbs down to GSF again, after saying "yes they are Textar kit number blah blah" - as quoted by me, they promptly send me a Mintex set - correct for this car according to their on-line catalogue - but without antisqueal pads and only two bolts - oh and not tapered to speed up running-in. Some of this might seem insignificant, but when the correct Textar bits are out there somewhere its a bit of a pain when you can't reach them. This is the second time that GSF have sold me rear pads for a VW without antisqueal bits fitted - and they need them, can't blame them for the missing screws that is a Mintex problem. BTW Mintex, Textar and Pagid are all owned by the same trading group - Mintex is the UK arm of the operation. Oh well, I suppose it's time to contact the UK tech rep (again) for a solution! One last moan, I phoned ECP on the same issue and they gave me a number for their "Textar kit" - it turned out to be an ATE kit - why can't these people listen to the customers question - oh and their data base claimed my car was a VX Astra - first time that has happened - and they did read my reg number back to me!!

Well it seems my previous attempt to buy Textar from GSF failed because someone stuck the wrong stocking number on the kit that they sold me - that is not good six months down the line! It seems now they only or randomly sell Mintex kits which are not quite the same bits.
