Why would you want narrower tyres FFS..... do you not care about grip?

You can get 185/50s on. but there really is no point. like tegwin says it does get a bit silly after 195s.
Get your arches rolled mate. It'll be cheaper than getting new tyres and fitting them also. costs about £100-150 for all four rolled at most places.
In regards to the rear bumper, it shouldn't be that much of an issue. for the rears tend to scrub near the front of the arch where it's the widest (mine do anyway?). however there are special methods on rolling plastic aswell. Go down to your local bodyshop and speak to them. or email archenemy.co.uk.

lol they call me the stig lol
your getting confused, i will be putting my 195s on my winter wheels n the 175s on my rm's

When tyres are stretched they are put under stress. If you go less then 195 then you'll end up putting more stress on the sidewall of the tyres and have ahigher risk of them blowing out.

Yeh, i've had my arches rolled and it made no difference to my rubbing issues. I'm running 8x15 ET20 on the front.

Jason read my reply way above ^^.
TBH mate, for a daily I wouldn't go more than 195/45s stretch ont 8s, anything more is just for show, for it's realistically unsafe to drive.
