I'm a lucky boy!

Noticed a really subtle sound in my engine bay last night, kind of like the exhaust was blowing a tad, but from the front, not rear. And it was the same this morning. so I thought I'd get it checked out.

I had a feeling it was the cat because I konked 3 times on a series of speed bumps two days earlier, but hells no....

After twenty minutes of searching and probing the mechanic found the last legs of a cambelt tensioner, and a very sorry looking belt!! There was a shard of plastic that had already come off the tensioner that had fallen down and just missed the belt. A few more miles and that would've been it. He got on the blower and got the belt kit and water pump delivered within an hour also, and is just finishing it off as we speak.

Am so lucky lol, I was planning on driving back up to uni on the sunday too! it would not have seen the 130 mile trip.

I had something similar a long time back, and my tensioner had failed. I was equally lucky!!

Nope, was gunna get it done in December with the service.

Here's the part in question:

Two parts of the plastic casing had already fallen down and narrowly missed the belt. and it was just held on by that one half.
