This week I drove to Cardiff and back on a full tank and my trip read 413! before I added more petrol (36 litres). This meant that I got just over 52mpg - not bad for a 12 year old car. It's a 1.4 CL with tyres inflated to 32 psi

43! You were cutting it fine as the polo has a 45 litre tank, another 15-20 miles and you'd have run out of fuel completely.

I know, i wont do it again! it was partly because i also left it too long before the next service station on the french motorway, that feeling when you think "oh ill easily make it too the next one........" don't risk it!

Nope I dont have a heavy right foot and I've been driving for almost two years. Even my dad, who is the slowest driver in the world, noticed how bad the fuel economy is on my car.

Need to get it sorted to be honest cause I'm paying double atm.

When was the last time you serviced it? Are your tyres correctly inflated?

The tyres are inflated correctly yeah. I dunno what it is to be honest but its definately something I need to sort out.

I mainly do short stints to work and maybe one motorway drive of nothing more then 20 miles if I ever go to meets. So generally I get 250 miles from 45L but the most i've ever achieved with plenty of motorway driving is 330miles and thats driving around 100mph too

With my 1,4 16v I´m driving around 420 km on 40L.

A thirsty fellow!

My personal record is 620 km on 42L.

53.7 mpg :)

'99 T reg 1.4CL, being driven very carefully - long motorway run at a steady 55mph. I was skint, and if I ran out of petrol I would have had to hitch hike... did pretty well though!
