Detexturing bump strips / primered ones...

Hello all :)

I probably get round to getting my Votex kit painted and fitted over Christmas after being sat in my garage for over 6 months...Was also thinking of getting the bump strips done at the same time. The only problem is I can't find anyone apart from VW who sell the primered ones...and they cost a fair bit. What's involved in detexturing the normal ones? Could a body shop do it? Or does anyone know where i could get primered ones from without breaking the bank?

Cheers.
Ash :)

The bodyshop will defo be able to do something with em mate, not sure how much its gona cost you to be honest and really would be best to ask them. I think they can do it using high build primer as the old mk3 polo bumpers often get repainted smooth.

Bumpstrips can def be done. I'd expect to pay £250-300 for all strips detexturised and sprayed.

The thing is...they have to be taken off to be 'de-texturised', and they wont go back on the way they came off, as the adhesive is a one time stick.

How much are the dealers asking for primed strips?

I happen to have some spare strips, if you want to give them a try. Front one's already done and been painted, others are standard black plastic.

i'm only in sunderland too... drop me a txt on 07729580079 if you're interested.

Put it this way, the standard black ones come to about three figures from Euro Car Parts, although it may be worth asking my local dealer. Would it be worth getting new standard ones and detexturing them?

And Panda, you have PM.

I got prices for primed ones from the dealers about a month ago for my 9n3.

Side strips £160 aprox. For front and rear pieces on both sides.
The rear strip was £30 aprox.

Also primed mirror covers were £25 aprox. each.

I rounded the prices from the dealers up when I got them. So actual prices are about £3-4 less!
