Megapixel count does not define a good camera from a bad one. It depends on alot of things.

The quality of the lens is a major factor, even when not talking about SLRs, some companies are better known for using higher quality lens' than others.

Aspect and pixel ratio, this is sometimes sacrificed to bump up megapixel count.

Megapixel size. Basically the bigger the pixel, the better light and quality it draws. So having less but bigger megapixels is better than having more but smaller.

Which cameras are you referring to?

Yep, what he said...

The size of the sensor and the quality of the lens are very important.
