after Reading the DIY on how to change the sidelights I was curious if there is another way of changing them with outhaving the whole front end off? Its dark when I finish work and when I travell 130 odd miles every weekend to see my good lady I don't think she'd be happy me sitting outside pulling the car apart. I know I'm whipped lol. Any feedback would be sweet. Cheers peeps.

You can do it without removing the front end...

On the drivers side you have to undo one nut and a clamp...remove the air intake pipe.... then remove the back of the light (three screws)... Bingo.. jobs a goodun..


On the passenger side... Remove the battery.... Remove the three screws... bingo..


Quite why anyone in their right mind would try and take off the bumper to change a lightbulb is way beyond me!

most helpful and good news. Might as well do full beams at same time. Want all my bulbs nice bright White like the xenons. Removing the battery does this have an effect on alarm/emobiliser or the remote central locking? Thanks mate

Nope... Wont affect anything if you remove the battery... Appart from the clock :p

If you struggle to get the air pipe off/on... Remove the two nuts that hold the power steering resevoir inplace to allow the resevour to lift up slightly... It gives you a little bit more room to get the bolt out of the pipe assembly...

I remeber seeing an article somewhere that reviewed a few "bright" bulbs... they thought the Osram Nightbreaker was pretty good.... aswell as a philips one... cant remeber what it was though...

Yep, get the above sidelights, best ones out there!

Full beams and dipped beams, aside from HIDs, look at Osram Nightbreakers and Phillips bluevision.

Both the above WILL NOT, replicate a HID look though. They'll just offer a marginal difference.

The closest bulbs to a HID match are the painted bulbs on eBay. These don't offer a good light dispertion, as they are cheap painted blue bulbs! They're good for full beams and fogs though if you really want the look,

to befair the full beams never used that often so just going to leave it. Ordered those side lights. I'm guessing the site sells them individually?
Is there a brighter bulb you can buy that will fit into the pen set up? Or does it always have to be the same xenon bulb? Also any one know how much to replace a bulb. For info and I'm pretty curios if you can change them and how easy , cost etc. Thanks guys

Yeh they come separately, so you have to buy two. ultraleds do do a bighter bulbs, they're two long though.

Fitting costs a silly amount, I wouldn't want to guess how much it would cost. Really doesn't take alot though. Will take 10 mins when you get the knack of it.

Yep, I'd recommend these (I use them), they're 6000k as appose the the 4300k OEM bulbs, so they're a nicer bluer tint :

so are those bulbs brighter than the standard gti xenon bulbs? ^^^

They'll appear alot brighter than the standard bulbs. As your standard ones are 7 years+ old. I'm not actually sure whether they emit more light than the OEMs in realistic terms though.
